I only use the pistol when the smartgun runs out of ammo
Why? Like sure being able to say you pistol killed someone is sick. But the Pulse Rifle is an awesome weapon expecially when you get grenades for it.

As far as I can tell, Alien vision adjusts accordingly. I've noticed when I bust lights out, the more I bust, the farther away I can "smell" a victim and the world does begin to take a slightly photo-negative appearance. I think it works better than having to switch, but at the same time DAMN there are a lot of lights in Refinery!

this is all demonstrated in this video http://www.youtube.c...h?v=tOMgA8h935I
by far the best view of an enemy you can get is while using the scoped sniper rifle.
Hm, i don't know if it's because i am naturally good at FPS's? or something, but whatever i am, i usually get the most points, except when i'm an alien and the predator's get higher usually.
first game i played i won with marine and it carrys on. i don't feel they're at a disadvantage. And I've got no time to bleed!

the simple answer: Because they didn't have them in the movie (aka the avp universe)
And, yes the aliens do see clearer and with more detail in the dark. Next time you're up on a ceiling or in a dark hived section take a look, you'll notice way more detail than if you were a marine.
On a side note, in game lights actually hamper the predator's thermal vision IMO. They project a light blue fog/haze that is difficult to see through.

Actually Colonial marines have infrared for everyone in a little eye piece that comes down over the eye. Apparently aliens don't show up in infrared, predators obviously do however as we can see in the original predator. (Aliens, Apone tells them all to go to Infrared, the eye pieces come down over their right eye. Dietrich turns around flame thrower up close, says "Maybe they don't show up on Infrared at all?" She then gets grabbed, pulled up the wall, she panicks and torches Frost along with all the ammo he is carrying.)
In any case it would be rather stupid to make predator cloak useless by including the same infrared vision mode of Colonial Marines in the game.
As for full on NVGs, we don't see them in Aliens but we see it in the avp movies.
In any case the NVG is available technology and obviously possible. Its not in the game because they wanted to preserve the fear of the dark, not because the technology would be unbelievable or did not exist.

Would Infrared pick up a cloaked predator? It's not the same as Thermal Vision.

Infrared is thermal radiation. So yes, it will. Infrared imaging picks up infrared radiation (thermal radiation) and uses that to produce images or show temperature differentials, depending on the the purpose of said kit. We use things like infrared in NVGs because infrared radiation is still plenty available even when visible light spectrum is not.
Technically infrared can also refer to NVGs as they also use the same radiation to make NVGs work.

No he says:
"Go to infrared people."
Then multiple people not simply Drake and Vasquez, have a small eye piece drop over their eye.
Drake and Vasquez constantly have an eye piece on, everyone else only has one when Apone tells them to go to infrared, so unless you want to claim they just decided to all start wearing monocles for the fun of it that's infrared.
